Biography - Jon Grave

Destined for a vocal career as a chorister at Newcastle Cathedral, following Choirboy of the Year success and his first operatic lead role Amahl. Jon’s forty-four subsequent roles include Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Donizetti and Gilbert & Sullivan operas.
Recent engagements include a series of Schumann’s Dichterliebe in Germany and the UK, reprisals of Barthelier in Bouffe (created for the Brighton Festival), Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, the Evangelist in Bach’s St John and St Matthew Passions and his 30th Messiah. Jon will return to Heidelberg in 2017 to perform Schubert’s Winterreise.
Jon entered the Guildhall School of Music as a talented trumpeter before focussing on singing before his graduation in 2003. He has an MA in Music Performance from the University of Chichester where he has lectured in Voice; Opera & Operetta and Italian since 2009. Jon also lectures in voice and is a choral director at the London College of Music. He has studied with Adrian Thompson, Neil Jenkins and currently Colin Baldy in Italy, William Allenby in London and Cheyne Davidson at Zurich Opera House.
Described by Classic FM as ‘one impressive tenor’ with ‘something special in his beautiful voice’, he has performed for the Royal Family, in most major UK concert halls, and in world famous venues in over twenty countries including the Mariinsky and Kremlin Theatres in Russia. Jon's repertoire includes over 70 oratorios and nearly 500 songs. Major film soundtracks with actors including Ewan McGregor and Richard E Grant, live broadcasts, solo recordings and lead film roles complete his catalogue.
Jon’s conducting and directing credits include Cosi fan tutte, Hansel & Gretel, Il barbiere di Siviglia with WSO and work with the North London Philharmonic.
